De vrachtwagen bevond zich bij afrit 39, hectometerpaaltje 65,3. De brandweer is met vier wagens vanuit Venlo, Maasbree en Sevenum ter plaatse gegaan, maar de vrachtwagen was niet meer te redden. De lading bestond uit papier en kleding. De chauffeur bleef ongedeerd. Ook zijn er bij de brand geen gevaarlijke stoffen vrijgekomen. De snelweg is ter plaatse afgesloten, het verkeer wordt omgeleid.
